The sun, the sea and the beach!
Those are the first thoughts when someone mentions the beautiful country of Spain.
In fact this is not doing justice to Spain, for it has so much more to offer. With the Pyrenees as a
natural border from the rest of the European continent, Spain developed over de centuries a very
specific own culture.
Most of the country is surrounded by water, which is probably the reason why the Spanish people
were always looking for new worlds and cultures beyond the horizon. A disadvantage of this long
coastline was the vulnerability for relatively easy attacks on the country from the sea.
The Romans, the Moors, the Inquisition and the various principalities are just a few aspects, that
strongly contributed to a sometimes bloody, but very rich history of which the remains in most
cases are carefully preserved. It is therefore that Spain proudly possesses an enormous wealth
of art and culture, while a huge variation of nature offers everything an active visitor can think of.
Apart of visiting cultural treasures everything is possible. Skiing, climbing, horse riding, hitch hiking,
mountain- biking and all kinds of watersports.
In short, Spain has a lot to offer for everybody, young and older people.
The mild and agreeable climate, the hospitable population makes Spain a great country for holidays,
hibernation or a permanent stay.
